Institutional Investors Poised to Double Digital Asset Holdings by 2028: State Street

Institutional investors are transitioning from experimentation to full-scale adoption of digital assets, according to State Street's 2025 Digital Assets Outlook. More than half of surveyed firms anticipate doubling their exposure to blockchain-based investments within three years, with tokenization of private equity and fixed income leading the charge.

By 2030, most respondents project 10-24% of their portfolios will comprise tokenized assets. This shift promises to unlock liquidity in traditionally illiquid holdings through blockchain representation of stocks, bonds, and other instruments. The MOVE is driven by demands for transparency and operational efficiency, with over half of institutions citing improved asset visibility as a key benefit.

Nearly 50% of surveyed executives expect at least 40% cost savings from digital asset infrastructure adoption. Faster settlement times and reduced compliance burdens are accelerating institutional embrace of blockchain technology across capital markets.
